CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Chandler police set up a checkpoint Thursday morning to spread awareness about the so-called "Chandler Rapist."Sgt. Rick Griner said the checkpoint at Dobson and Ray roads was a proactive approach to "finding this predator and taking him off our streets."The checkpoint was close to the site of last week's incident in which a 15-year-old girl woke to find a man in her bedroom. Though the girl was not sexually assaulted and the incident was not linked at the time, police now believe the man may have been the Chandler Rapist, who had not struck since June.

Griner said officers and detectives were stopping cars, handing out fliers and asking commuters if they had seen anything suspicious. The drivers stopped by police Thursday morning were the same people driving through the area when last week's early-morning attack occurred, Griner said.Griner said there was also a possibility that the rapist is among the commuters in the area and that police were looking for him as well.
